About Me

I'm a college graduate with a degree in English literature/education and a certification in the Montessori method of early childhood education. I decided while student teaching that I enjoyed babies most of all, and I became a nanny.
I was a nanny for 6 years until I had my own child 5 years ago. I've had experience with many different families and parenting methods, as well as experience being a mom and dealing with the 24 hour nature of parenthood. I've used cloth diapers, swaddled, and breastfed my own child, as well as mentoring others.
In 2003, I joined a mentoring program for low income teenage moms, and I worked with a young woman from late in her pregnancy, through her birth, and until her daughter was two years old.
I completed my Postpartum Doula training at Natural Resources in San Francisco, CA.  I am a member of the international organization DONA (Doulas of North America).

"Susan is an exceptional doula... she provided me with expert care and advice. She guided me through my difficult transition into motherhood with compassion and sensitive caregiving...I was overwhelmed with the challenges of caring for a premature baby and ...a c-section with multiple complications. Susan was able to support me both emotionally and physically which gave me the strength to recover from surgery and to bond lovingly..." -- Dawn
"Susan has helped us to become confident parents.  She has helped us in almost every way to make the experience as wonderful as it has been...I cannot say enough words of praise regarding our experience with Susan...I don't know how we could have done it without her!" -- Laurel
